Thousands of sounds…of silence

Thousands of daily hits to this site, lots of visits, but no comments of late. (Well, one.) I feel like a guy in a big empty cavern, far, far underground shouting into the empty darkness with a megaphone. Only the echoes of my own voice come back to me. It’s so far underground not even bats respond. I think I hear the scuttling of albino invertebrates perhaps…

I suspect that the problem is just the way our comments is set up. I’ll see if I can improve that.

“Careful what you wish for, Shirley”

I’m going to look about at some other blogs…see how comment heavy they are…

Well, I thought you were looking for some peace and quiet, and I was respecting. And you are missed. But if you really are lonely …

  6. I could always read you, John Shirley… but writing in a “Forum” is unlike Facebook. Facebook is passing notes in class; Forums are like actually taking the class. We might get graded. In a forum, I think that commentary is supposed to be erudite, pithy and insightful.. avuncular if you will. Or avAUNTular at the least.

Forums make me feel like a mime in a mine field— or a canary in a coal mine. Either way, I am sure to die. At least you can DIE like a young man. But my salad days are tossed on a bed of remorse…an unkempt shadow of a past that I am never sure I even had.

But riddle me this, John Shirley…

How could we miss you if you wouldn’t go away?

  7. I like that comment Randy…my salad days are over too, i’m well into the stale remnants of dessert now…

  8. Hi John. I have followed you over from Facebook now. Hopefully other voices will rise up to match the visits. Best, David.

I went the other direction, from blog to FB, precisely because if the whole “shouting into the dark” aspect. At least on FB when I whistle past the graveyard, someone (or something) whistles back…

  10. Did he just call us albino invertebrates? I hope so!

  11. So, John Shirley– what do you want:

    Choice A:
    Cry ‘Havoc,’ and let slip the dogs of war;
That this foul deed shall smell above the earth
With carrion men, groaning for burial.

    OR

    Choice B:
And his heart is laughing, screaming, pounding
The poem across the tracks rebounding
    Shadowed by the exit light
His legs take their ascending flight
To seek the breast of darkness and be suckled by the night?

  12. Ain’t hardly no-one comments on the FREEZINE. Attanasio has left a few, tho’

  13. Hey, it looks like more & more visitors here… It WAS feeling lonely earlier…
