“Without a cigarette”

There are a lot of people who imagine that they have a philosophy. But what they have is an attitude. An attitude of “people who’re poor didn’t work hard enough” is not a philosophy. They construct demagogic pseudo-philosophical filigree around it and call it a philosophy, like “Objectivism”. But it’s just an attitude.

Not that there’s anything wrong with having “attitude”. Just don’t mistake it for philosophy.

“I have no attitude without a cigarette.” – Lou Reed

Me–very occasionally I smoke a cigar. At which time I have more attitude.
