CBS piece revisits 9/11 conspiracy theories, handily repudiates “Truthers”

The article I quote (and link) below sums up some of the rebuttals to 9/11 “truthers”. The article is simplistic but effectively delivers its main points. The only 9/11 conspiracy I can see was the conspiracy carried out by al-Qaeda. However it’s just possible that the Bush administration knew the attacks were coming–they certainly had clues it was coming–and let it happen so they’d have their “Pearl Harbor.” More likely, the terrorists pulled it off because the Bush administration was roundly incompetent at everything; Bush’s Bunglers weren’t minding the store.

Here’s the piece’s rebuttal to claims that a missile struck the Pentagon on 9/11:

“Why wasn’t the hole as wide as a 757′s 124-ft.-10-in. wingspan? A crashing jet doesn’t punch a cartoon-like outline of itself into a reinforced concrete building, says (Pentagon inspection) team member Mete Sozen, a professor of structural engineering at Purdue University. In this case, one wing hit the ground; the other was sheared off by the force of the impact with the Pentagon’s load-bearing columns, explains Sozen, who specializes in the behavior of concrete buildings. What was left of the plane flowed into the structure in a state closer to a liquid than a solid mass.”
