The news media is dying?

Bill Moyers says that the news media is dying, “we’re amusing ourselves to death”; he says that it’s “lost in the smoke of opinion”. For a long time I’ve been heartily sick of pundits, the proliferation of them in television news, even on shows I like. I can’t even seem to locate the regular “evening news”. Locally KRON has infomercial interviews with local merchants who pay for them time, framing it as news.

A Vision of bin Laden’s Ghost

Vision of Osama bin Laden’s ghost riding with the Navy Seals, unseen, in their departing chopper, the ghost unsure why he goes along; he follows them to a barracks somewhere in Afghanistan where they break out the booze, taking celebratory shots–bin Laden’s trying to drink the shots too. “This I had only when young. Later, yes, I missed the comradeship of drinking. Thank you! Death to me! Give me drink!”

Patriarchy/Matriarchy

Women shake their fists at patriarchies, & I understand, but I wonder if they would shake their fists at matriarchies too. No? But matriarchies would also be unfair wouldn’t they? Anyway I’m a believer in as much cultural tolerance as *conscience* allows & some patriarchies are tolerable but those that repress women’s human rights (no, I don’t think all do) are wrong. There are limits to cultural tolerance.

If a minute sentient being entered a human mind

If a minute sentient being entered a human mind as if entering a world, it would see it as patterned but meaningless. Associations shape the mind; in a landscape, water leads to valleys etc: landscape as mental association. Some think the universe is a mind. The universe, from inside, *seems* meaningless, void of will. But mind & will may be there, as it lurks in our own brains.
