Very well done ... by the way, dandelions were known as "white men's footprints" in quite a number of Native American cultures, as they followed in the wake of Anglo cultural expansion. (They are Eurasian plants.) In addition to tasty spring greens, the roots have liver-cleansing properties, and the flowers are delicious made into wine, or added to any sort of egg dish. In both cases, remove the calyx (green backing to the petals) to avoid unpleasent flavors.

I would also point out that it appears that the Conservatives who start out rather clear on their positions about the rights of people whom they consider to be "other" i.e. gay people have a rather definitive change of heart when those "other" people turn out to be their sons and daughters who would like to get married and raise children. I've seen a similar shift in conservatives as they find themselves having to rely on programs such as Social Security or Unemployment. It always seems to me to be a decided lack of imagination on their part. They can't possibly care what it's like for a gay person to be denied the same rights as any other citizen until that gay person is somehow connected to them. They cannot possibly imagine that Social Security is worth all this trouble until they realize it's the only health care they will have at a certain point in their lives.

not sure what your point is, Kelly. I was referencing stuff like The Day After Tomorrow (which was actually inspired by a nonfiction book which was inspired by a scientific study). But you know, Strieber's story about Communion etc was a mix of delusion and dishonesty.

Kind of a narrow view there John.
Have you really looked into it or not?
The question is not were they our kind of evangelical Christian,
but rather did they believe that God and the Bible
were foundational to the success of our nation.
The answer to that, based on the evidence, is a big yes.
Why would the New England Primer be the main public school
text book for over 200 years if the leaders of the day didn't value God
and the Bible and yes Jesus Christ.
